Cold Second Floor in 2-year-old Home – 2020 Contemporary
The home is a 2659 square foot Contemporary-style home built in 2020. – just 2 years old. The homeowner complained that the “the second floor is 7 degrees colder in winter than the first floor.”

Wise Home Energy performed an initial Blower Door Test which showed an airflow of 2174 CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) of air moving past the blower door.
Here are the steps Wise Home Energy took:
- Remove attic insulation
- Airsealing
- Re-insulate attic
- Insulate rimjoist
- Insulate cantilever

And here is the result of the Blower Door Test taken after the air-sealing and insulation work was completed. The results show a CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) of 1479, a reduction of 695 CFM, or 39%. A great improvement for a 2-year-old home, and a very satisfied customer.
